It's been a little while since I used the Sony DSX-S100 for the first time however it impressed me so much that I felt it deserved a full review. I used the unit in early August when we first received the item and with days I realised how good this stereo really is.
The DSX-S100 is the most basic of Sony’s new TuneTray range but don’t let this put you off, this unit is on par with others in the range. Priced at around £110, the build quality cannot be beaten on value for money.
The TuneTray feature is the greatest asset of this car stereo. This allows you to mount any iPod or USB device inside the stereo hiding it from view and keeping your dashboard area nice and clear. All control is direct through the stereos controls and I must say the iPod control is excellent. I have used many different stereos claiming to have full speed iPod control and this is the only unit I have found to achieve this for under the £200 mark. When combined with the remote control it makes navigation extremely easy and is a pleasure to use.
My favourite feature is the Zappin, this allows you to hear the chorus of a tune rather than having to listen to the full build up. You can keep skipping and listening to the tracks until you find the one that you want, it will then play the full song from the start. This saves a lot of time and fuss when trying to find a song that you fancy listening to.
It is hard to find any real bad points to this stereo, for the price it gives you exactly what you expect and more.
In conclusion the Sony DSX-S100 is an absolutely fantastic piece of kit. I will guarantee that you will not find a better iPod solution for less than £150. If you choose to buy this stereo you will not be disappointed!
